I have been in my studio working on larger pieces for my upcoming exhibition in December, but I did step out on a few occasions to paint outdoors. Fall is my favorite time of year, so I will be painting on location as often as possible.

Last week, I drove out to Fearrington Village and painted the black and white belted cows grazing on the rolling pastures. What a treat!

There is only one thing better than painting from life - painting from life outdoors! I really enjoyed being surrounded by beautiful gardens, capturing the sunlit landscape. After about 2 hours at the pond, my paint and I were melting in the sun, so I packed up my stuff and sat in the shade to paint the Peonies. Check out my Facebook page, I posted a photo of my easel set-up by the pond.

Taking a break from my "Interior Views" series to paint an exterior. This house has special meaning to my sister-in-law, it is located in Gilgo Beach, NY. Unfortunately, I think it sustained some damage during Hurricane Sandy. Happy Belated Birthday Cheryl!
This week I will post one more interior, and introduce my next series.

#23 - "W" is for Walk

This is my husband and son taking a stroll in the park about 12 years ago. For many reasons, this image is very dear to me, but the one that stands out for this challenge is that my son is walking. Due to development delays, my son did not start walking until he was 2 1/2 years old, so you can imagine how excited I was when he finally took his first steps. At this point in my photo reference, he had only been walking for 6 months. I really enjoyed getting lost in this memory while painting, and didn't want to stop, but I must move on to the letter "X".

Turning a Corner

 I spend about 2 hours in my car each day taking my children to and from school, and I often see things I would love to stop and paint. On this particular day, I was delighted to come upon this old car driving about 20 miles below the speed limit. As the car slowed down for a turn, I was lucky enough to get a photo.
For me, the title of this painting has special meaning, and came to me as I was driving, of course. In many ways, I feel like my life has 'turned a corner' this past year, and there is no turning back. Praise God!

 This is my submission for the DPW Paintworks challenge for this week.  It was a nice change of pace for me to do a landscape after doing mostly still life paintings. Carol Marine provided a couple of photos that she took while in Germany for us to use as a reference. Check out the DPW website, it is great to see the many interpretations of the same photo.
