#23 - "W" is for Walk

8" x 8"
Oil on Canvas
NFS
This is my husband and son taking a stroll in the park about 12 years ago. For many reasons, this image is very dear to me, but the one that stands out for this challenge is that my son is walking. Due to development delays, my son did not start walking until he was 2 1/2 years old, so you can imagine how excited I was when he finally took his first steps. At this point in my photo reference, he had only been walking for 6 months. I really enjoyed getting lost in this memory while painting, and didn't want to stop, but I must move on to the letter "X".

He Is Risen

4' x 7'

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,
that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
John 3:16

Happy Easter! I am excited to share what I have been focused on the past few weeks - Christ! This is a large painting that I did during our worship service this morning. While the band played through two songs, I painted this portrait of Christ on a large board with latex paint.  It was the first time I have ever painted anything in front of a crowd and it was nerve-racking, but a lot of fun. If you would like to see more photos of the painting in process click here to visit photographer Mick Stewart's website.

It was great to finally be in front of my easel and painting again, after 3 weeks away. I knew I was going to be a little rusty, so I chose to keep it simple by sticking to a black & white interpretation of this week's painting challenge. Linda Popple provided the sunny, NYC photo for the challenge titled, "The NYC Lady Challenge".
I think it is ironic that I recently spent some time in NY, and I had hoped to return with photo reference of a sunny, New York City day, only to have been rained out. However, I did return with rainy day photos, a few extra inches on my waist - due to the amazing pizza, pasta, pastries, and bagels that I inhaled, and a smile on my face. It was great fun to spend time with family, and be pampered for a few days - thank you Gina and Steven!
