Time for Tea

8" x 8"
oil on canvas
This is my entry for the DPW's "The Value Challenge". The purpose of this exercise is to learn how to use values (lights/darks) to create dynamic compositions. Only one color - burnt umber, was used for the wipe-out technique of painting in the darks and wiping out the lights. I often use this technique to start my paintings because it gives me control over the drawing and values before I commit to color. For me, this has been the most valuable lesson of the DPW challenges so far. Now I need to apply the challenge "one color per brushstroke" on top of this and see if I can get the looser feel I have been wanting in my paintings.
