Turning a Corner

6" x 9"
oil on board
I spend about 2 hours in my car each day taking my children to and from school, and I often see things I would love to stop and paint. On this particular day, I was delighted to come upon this old car driving about 20 miles below the speed limit. As the car slowed down for a turn, I was lucky enough to get a photo.
For me, the title of this painting has special meaning, and came to me as I was driving, of course. In many ways, I feel like my life has 'turned a corner' this past year, and there is no turning back. Praise God!

"Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden light."
Matthew 11:28-30

  2. This just goes to show . . . you never know what's around the corner! Great painting, Maria; I really like the blue, and the tiny bits of reflection. The title is perfect.

  3. Poetic... and beautifully painted! A merging of your old and new (it never goes out of style).

  4. Hi Maria. I like this painting and the whole thought of turning a corner. I was a taxi mom for what seemed an eternity doing the school run too. Love the scripture. Oh your cat came out great too.
